Need to Upgrade Your OS or Software?
(click to keep open)
What you want your computer to do depends upon what YOU want to do. So, do you know what you want your computer to do? If you know the answer to this question, you need decide on what Operating System (OS) and what software will suit your needs. You have a lot to choose from, there is Windows, LINUX, OS X, email Clients, Media Software, office software, gamming software, recording software, etc...
Are you certain you know what OS you want? Many people find that they are not using the best OS for their needs or they are not using the OS and programs properly to meet their needs. For example at OviNuppi we are very happy with what we can accomplish with a simple text editor and some administrative and programming software. We also realize that many people would be happy if they never even know what a text editor is. Although what we use for our work differs from the uses of most people, we do have extensive experience setting up computers for use by very diverse clientele.
If you are interested in the differences of different OSes - weather you want to change or just want to be more versant on the subject - Here is a nice query that will give you links to some more critical and useful information about OSes than you usually find in specs or press releases.
Vista vs Windows 7 vs XP vs OS X vs Linux
(query optimized to give best results, not in preference of OSes)
NOTE We advise anyone using Vista to upgrade to Windows 7 (this may also require a hardware upgrade). We are not endorsing Windows products, and you will probably need to pay for the upgrade, however we have found it is worth it...
Upgrades/Changes you might be considering:
- LINUX (PC or Mac to ubuntu, Red Hat, debian, etc...)
- Multiple Boot Choices (OSes)
- Windows (or LINUX) on a MAC
TIP: Do you have an old slow laptop you don't use anymore? Ever been watching TV, working in the kitchen or garage, or sitting in bed and wanted to send a message or look up something on the internet? Ever heard of
Ubuntu ? Ubuntu is a scaled down version of LINUX with an easy to use
GUI interface that can take you to the internet and your email in seconds. Download and make a disk from the
ISO image (Macs and Windows 7 have ISO burning software pre-installed, other OSes will need separate software), stick it in your old machine and set in the location most convenient to you. You don't even need to install it on your computer, it will boot from a CD. Oh, and one more thing - it's free!
